2026 Work on the Ruin
2026 was a busy year at Menokin which included focus on the southeast section of the ruin, addressing the landslide and rebuilding part of the east wall. Here are progress photos of that work done by Dominion Traditional Building Group.
The Landslide
This pile of rubble flowed into the southeast quadrant of the cellar. The rubble was removed and layer by layer, the foundation was rebuilt up to the water table.
The East Wall
Once work on the landslide and water table were complete, the stonemasons turned their attention to the East wall.
Work isn’t yet complete with the East wall. It will eventually be rebuilt up to the second story, but it’s through the support of Menokin’s community that will make completion possible.
The Virginia 250 Preservation Fund was what enabled us to kickstart this phase of the Glass House Project that included rebuilding the North wall, southeast foundation, water table, and a portion of the East wall in just 2 years. Although work on the ruin is quieting down next year, we are continuing to raise the funds needed for future progress. We are so much closer to full stabilization.
