Save the Date 2024 Programming Guide

This Spring and Summer, Menokin has assembled unique and engaging programming for our Northern Neck community, friends of Menokin, and visitors from around the globe.


 

May 15-17: Paint Menokin!

Paint Menokin! Plein Air” is a partnership with The Arts Center of Montross. From May 15-17, this first time event delivers a fresh perspective of the beautiful landscapes and ruins at Menokin as seen through the eyes of a painter. Artists’ work will be exhibited and available for sale at a special party in the Menokin Visitor Center the evening of May 17th. Be sure to order your tickets in advance! 2024: Back Inside the Menokin ruin

Come to Menokin to see the inside of the ruin! The Menokin Signature Tour now allows interior access for tour attendees after last year’s construction work. See and learn about the fascinating layers of architecture, masonry, and the literal marks left by all those persons that lived and worked at Menokin. Book a tour today to reserve your spot.


June 8: Fairy House Competition

Menokin has been working on a magical building known as the Glass House Project. We invite you to display your own magical house, on a smaller scale, for the fairies in our forest. Fairy House artists register to build a house along our trails, which will remain installed from June 8 -October 12. Enter to display your creation for others to discover!


June 22: Makers Day 2024

Join us again for demonstrations and learning at Menokin’s Makers Day on June 22 from 11am-3pm. This FREE family friendly program celebrates the material culture we make and use in our lives everyday. Learn about chair making, glassblowing, basketry, brick making, woodworking, stained glass, quilting and more! Vendors will also be on site so you can purchase your own locally, sourced, hand made object to take home.


July 13:

Power of Place: Conservation Kayaking, and Culture Festival

Join Menokin for a kayak race and festival celebrating the power of this place on land and water through conservation advocacy, kayaking, hiking, and an ecological education festival with music, food and fun for the whole family. The event draws attention to the Northern Neck’s beautiful natural resources and rich historic cultural heritage. Registration opens soon!


2024: Teaching Gardens Project

The Teaching Gardens project made possible through a workshop initiative of the non-profit Just Harvest and funded by The Haven Shelter and Services, community partners joined to create three new garden plots. Each garden at Menokin will highlight the sustainable practices and traditions learned from Indigenous Teachings, African American traditions, and regenerative gardens based on this historic knowledge. All year around!


2024: Kayak Paddles

Menokin is rolling out another season of wonderful waterways adventures on Cat Point Creek. Kayak Rentals, lessons, and guided paddles with our own Alice French. Spots go fast. Free water access for those with their own gear. Kayak rentals and trips launch on June 1st, and run through October 15th. Book your spots today!
