Our Menokin Descendant Collective Spotlight for September is Dr. G. R. Quarles!

Dr. Quarles is the third great-grandson of Daniel West Gordon and the fourth grandson of Amanda Beverly and Stafford Gordon.

Dr. G. R. Quarles is a highly experienced and accomplished author, lecturer, workshop facilitator, speaker, and panelist who has dedicated his career to promoting financial management and wealth building for individuals, businesses, non-profits, and churches. With over 30 years of experience in corporate and government positions, he brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his work in financial management. He is employed with the United States Department of the Treasury and looks forward to his future retirement! Dr. Quarles also serves as an adjunct college professor of management, economics,

Finance management, and supply chain management for over 20 years at Virginia Union University Sydney Lewis School of Business, Richmond, Virginia, and has made a significant contribution to the education of future business leaders. His extensive experience in ministry, including 15 years as the Pastor of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, King William, Virginia, has given him a unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities faced by African-Americans and African -American churches.

Per Dr. Quarles, being a descendant of the Menokin Plantation and a part of the Menokin Descendant Collective fills him with a profound sense of pride, connection, and responsibility. He feels honored to carry the legacy of his ancestors, whose lives were intertwined with the rich history of this place.

His connection to Menokin is a source of deep personal significance. It's a reminder of the strength and resilience of those who came before him, who faced unimaginable challenges yet persevered. Their stories, struggles, and triumphs are etched into the very soil of this historic land.

He continues to share that being a part of the Menokin Descendant Collective is like joining a family—a community of individuals who share this unique bond and commitment to preserving our heritage. Together, we work towards honoring the past, ensuring that the stories of our ancestors are not forgotten, and creating a future that reflects the values and lessons they imparted.

He embraces this role with a sense of responsibility to carry forward the legacy of Menokin and its descendants.
