The Women of The Glass House Series

Nakita Reed

Associate at Quinn Evans & host of the Tangible Remnants podcast

Nakita worked on the early stages of the Glass House Project while working at Encore Sustainable Architects prior to joining her present firm. Nakita took the time to give us a unique look into her own journey and inspiration!

What is your job title, place you work, and responsibilities?

Associate at Quinn Evans. I work on various aspects of historic projects, from historic structures reports to design documents.

What excites you about the Glass House Project?

Reinterpreting the building to explore the construction techniques and materials used. I also love how the Foundation is using the building and site to tell the full history of the place.

Who inspires you?

People willing to follow their own path instead of the path others impose on them. At the moment, Rihanna is inspiring me with how she is redefining 'acceptable' fashion for pregnant women.

What would you say is your biggest professional accomplishment or the biggest professional challenge you have faced?

Aside from various industry awards I’ve received, my biggest professional accomplishment so far has been being the architect on the renovation of a few vacant row homes in Baltimore and helping to revitalize those communities.

What words of wisdom would you like to share with the next generation of women seeking to work in your field?

Women in general: Stop trying to please everyone. Someone will always be upset with your decisions so follow your own path. The world needs you to show up as who you are, not a copy of someone else.

Women in the field: Build a network of people across various sectors in the industry. It takes a team to make a project happen so understand the roles everyone plays and help to do the right things in the right order.
