This replica keystone, beautifully carved by master stonemason Hunter Shackleford, has the original design of stylized tobacco leaves and flowers. The original keystone was deemed too fragile to return to the house this summer, and so it will remain on permanent display in our Visitors Center. As you can see, the replica now crowns Menokin’s doorway arch, just like in Francis’s time. Very soon, we'll have the entire front doorway rebuilt - stay tuned for the big reveal!
Making a Documentary
We are thrilled to announce that production is officially underway for our 30-minute documentary film, directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Lorenzo Dickerson!
This powerful film will tell the story of the Menokin Descendant Collective—descendants of the enslaved families who lived and labored at Menokin. Their stories and the journey of connecting the past with the present will all be explored, and you can help us in funding this special project!
