Descendants’ Day 2026

October 3, 2026, the year of America’s 250th, Descendants’ Day occurred revolving around the theme of self-emancipation. We premiered Thicker Than Water, a documentary by filmmaker Lorenzo Dickerson about Menokin’s Descendant Collective.

“As the Descendant Collective, we will be a voice for our ancestors. We will preserve their memories by seeking the truth, filling the gaps in our history, and accurately telling the stories of their struggles, resilience, and accomplishments. Our ultimate goal is to recognize the impact the enslaved people had on shaping our lives and the Nation.”
