OUR STRATEGIC PARTNERS

Through its new approach to heritage management, and its commitment to the furthering of educational opportunities and resources, Menokin is available to scholars and individuals locally, nationally and internationally.

Partnerships with institutions of higher learning such as the Harvard Graduate School of Design, the College of William and Mary, the University of Virginia, Savannah College of Art and Design, the University of Mary Washington and the University of Maryland have led to the development of breakthrough research on historic building practices, geological anomalies, academic exercises and hands-on preservation trade experience.

VISITORS

Visitors experience Menokin as an unfolding narrative: forging connections between the different areas of interest, reading the landscape from all angles, exploring archeological sites, and searching out hidden stories.

They also enjoy Menokin’s natural environment – walking through the wooded areas and kayaking on the Creek.

Menokin is a regular destination for locals and visitors who use it as a recreation, activity and relaxation destination.

Oral Histories of the descendants of the communities that historically inhabited the site are a key tool to gaining a clearer picture of Menokin’s history. The Menokin Foundation is collecting these testimonies to enrich the interpretation of the site and our place within the community.

FUTURE GENERATIONS

In layering the visual and verbal experiences of today’s visitors and enthusiasts on top of these oral histories, Menokin is perpetuating the sense of continuum that pervades every aspect of this project.

As the faces change and the years pass, the stories of Menokin will continue to be written, thus ensuring that this place will matter for generations to come.
