John Tayloe II Deed of Gift for Menokin to Rebecca Tayloe Lee

This Indenture made the twenty fourth Day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy eight Between the Honourable John Tayloe of Mount Airy in the County of Richmond Esquire of the one part and Rebecca Lee Daughter of the said John Tayloe and Wife of Francis Lightfoot Lee Esquire of the other part Witnesseth that the said John Tayloe for and in Consideration of the Natural love and affection which he bears to the said Rebecca Lee Hath given granted aliened and Confirmed and by the Presents Doth give grant and alien and Confirm unto the said Rebecca Lee and her heirs All that tract or parcel of land Commonly known by the name of Menokin Containing by Estimation one thousand acres be the same more or less situate lying and being in the Parish of Lunenburg in the County of Richmond aforesaid on the North side of Rappahanock river on Rappahanock creek and Bounded according to the known ancient and reputed bounds therof which said land Charles Grymes late of the said County of Richmond Esquire deceased died seised and possessed of and at his Death was allotted to the Hon[oura]ble Philip Ludwell late of Green Spring Esquire deceased and Frances his wife conveyed to the said John Tayloe by Deed bearing Date the twenty fourth day of April one thousand seven hundred and fifty one as by the said Deed of Record in the General Court of Virginia relation being thereunto had may more fully appear And all houses outhouses yards Gardens Orchards ways water course Profits Commodities Hereditaments and Appurtenances whatsoever to the same belonging or in any Appertaining Also the following Twenty Negro Slaves (to wit) Old Will. James. Aaron. Harry. Ben. Little Will. Old Winny. Old Nan Cate. Dinah. Young Cate. Abraham. Charles. Sarah. Milly. Eve. Venus. Poress . George. and Criss. Together with their increase since the twenty fourth day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and sixty nine it being the day on which the said Rebecca was possessed with the said Land and slaves To have and to hold the said Tract or Parcel of land and twenty Negroes with their Increase as aforesaid and appurtenances herein before mentioned or intended to be hereby given and granted unto the said Rebecca Lee and her heirs to the only proper use and of the said Rebecca Lee and her heirs forever But it is the meaning and Intention that if the said Rebecca Lee should die in the Lifetime of the said Francis Lightfoot Lee that the said Francis Lightfoot Lee shall have an Estate for his Life in the said land described with the appurtenances thereto belonging For Witness whereof the Parties to these Presents have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written

Deed of Trust to Richard Lee

This Indenture made the fifth Day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and seventy eight Between the Honorable Francis Lightfoot Lee of Menokin in the County of Richmond Esquire and Rebecca his wife of the one part and Richard Lee of the County Westmoreland Esquire of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Francis Lightfoot Lee and Rebecca his wife for and in Consideration of the sum of five shillings to them in hand paid by the said Richard Lee at and before the sealing and Delivery of these presents the receipt whereof they do hereby acknowledge Have and each of them Hath given granted bargained and sold and by these presents Do and each of them Doth give grant bargain and sell unto the said Richard Lee and his heirs All that tract or parcel of land commonly known by the name of Menokin containing by Estimation one thousand acres be the same more or less situate lying and being in the parish of Lunenburg in the County of Richmond aforesaid whereon the said Francis Lightfoot Lee and Rebecca his wife now live And all houses out-houses yards gardens orchards Profits Commodities and appurtenances Whatsoever to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining To have and to hold the said Tract or parcel of Land and promises with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said Rebecca Lee Heirs in trust for the use of the said Francis Lightfoot Lee and Rebecca his wife and their heirs and the heirs of the longest liver of Him and to no other use intent or purpose whatsoever In witness whereof the parties to these presents have here unto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written.

At a Court Held for Richmond County the 5 th Day of October 1778 This Deed of Trust from Francis Lightfoot Lee and Rebecca his wife of the one part to Richard Lee of the other part was acknowledged in open Court and admitted to Record. Previous to which the said Rebecca being privately examined freely relinquished her right of Dower in the premises here by conveyed.
