OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY MATTERS

Menokin is a national treasure sitting in a region of Virginia that deserves a positive catalyst for economic growth and an inspiration for collaboration and unity. Menokin’s location places it among a tightly-knit local community who will reap the benefits of its growth and success, and support a resource destination they will visit repeatedly.

COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIPS

Our association with community partners like the Friends of the Rappahannock Wildlife Refuge, Three Rivers Environmental Education program, Rappahannock Community College Institute of Lifelong Learning, Teacher Recertification Programs and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts allows us to offer a wide range of programming and learning opportunities right in our own community.

The “get wet” program teaches the teachers how to engage students in environmental conservation best practices.

Teacher recertification programs bring educators on site to have hand-on learning experiences that can be taken back to the classroom.

A PLACE OF LEARNING

The Foundation’s firm belief in incorporating education and learning as core parts of its mission positions Menokin as a place for education, exploration, and enrichment. We are offering learning opportunities for everyone — whether their interests lie in history, architecture, nature, art or conservation.

We continue to reach out to students in the local community by offering our property as an outdoor laboratory for the Chesapeake Bay Governor School’s Marine and Environmental Science program; taking history into the elementary schools through the “History on the Go” program; and hosting field trip programs for area schools, introducing the students to archaeology, water quality testing and 18th-century life.
