Living Shorelines: Environmentally Friendly Ways of Managing Erosion, May 19 at 5:00 pm
Many shoreline property owners are worried about erosion of their shoreline and are looking for ways to protect their shoreline while also providing high quality habitat for wildlife. On May 19 at 5:00 pm at Menokin, near Warsaw, Virginia, Bobbie Burton, Executive Director of Hull Springs Farm of Longwood University will present an illustrated slide lecture on living shoreline techniques which control erosion while also preserving or restoring shoreline habitat that supports shorebirds, juvenile fish, tidal marsh, submerged aquatic vegetation, and other plant and wildlife species. This lecture, which includes a case study of the use of living shoreline techniques at Hull Springs Farm, introduces property owners to strategies that are good for water quality, wildlife habitat and for shorelines. Hull Springs Farm is a working farm in transition to becoming a model of conservation. The lecture is free. For more information, contact Menokin at 804-333-1776 or menokin@menokin.org.
