Rappahannock Institute for Lifelong Learning (RILL)

The three part course will begin with an overview of Virginia Indian history, focusing on Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck, and taught from a site that was historically part of the Rappahannock Tribe's home ground. It will continue with a discussion of contemporary Virginia Tribes and their concerns.

Deanna Beacham, a Norfolk native of Weapomeoc heritage, holds a bachelor's degree from Duke University and master's degree from University of Colorado. She works as a program specialist for the Virginia Council on Indians, and serves as consultant, advisor, and lecturer on Virginia history to many organizations.

This RILL noncredit college-level class is held in partnership with the Menokin Foundation. Registration and payment of $35 tuition per course are required prior to the start of classes. Some instructors may suggest specific preliminary reading material to prepare students to get the most from the course; this information will be sent to registered students. No prerequisites will be expected, no tests will be administered, and no credits will be awarded. Evaluations by participants will provide feedback for future course offerings.
