Menokin Foundation Receives Grant from Dominion

The Menokin Foundation received a $5,000 contribution from Dominion Resources Services, Inc. on September 11, 2007. The funds will assist the Foundation's vision to educate students of all ages on the conservation of cultural and natural resources by using historic Menokin and its surrounding 500 acres of forest, wetlands and shoreline as a teaching and learning center.

Alexander Smith, Jr., External Affairs Manager with Dominion and a Northern Neck native, presented the contribution check to the Menokin Foundation's President, Helen Turner Murphy. Mr. Smith commented on the donation, “Dominion takes great pride in supporting the many organizations and activities throughout our multi-state service territory. We are especially pleased to partner with the Foundation in its mission to protect Menokin from further deterioration and to help the organization develop educational programs.”

Foundation President Helen Turner Murphy expressed her thanks on behalf of the Board of Trustees, “Dominion's generous contribution assists us in the preservation of Menokin and continuing with our architectural conservation teaching program that was launched this past June with Rappahannock Community College . We are deeply appreciative of Dominion's investment in this National Historic Landmark's future.”

Menokin was the home of patriot Francis Lightfoot Lee, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, and his wife Rebecca Tayloe Lee. The Menokin Foundation currently owns and manages the property, and acquired it by gift in 1995.
